I Mopped the Floor Yesterday (recipe included)

I know, major accomplishment, right?

Mopping the floor is one of those necessary chores that most people dread. However, I have a different perspective. I actually enjoy mopping the floor, especially when it's finally over. There's something satisfying about seeing a clean and shiny floor after putting in the effort to make it spotless. In this post, I'll share my experience with mopping and why I find it strangely enjoyable.

Take control, relax your mind

First and foremost, mopping allows me to take control of my living space. It's a simple task that instantly transforms the entire room. When I see the dirt and grime disappear, it gives me a sense of accomplishment and pride in my home. Plus, a clean floor creates a healthier environment for my family and me.

Another reason why I enjoy mopping is the opportunity it provides for me to relax and unwind. As I glide the mop across the floor, it becomes a meditative activity. The repetitive motion allows my mind to wander and helps me destress after a long day. It's almost therapeutic in a way.

Add some smell-good

To enhance my mopping experience, I like to incorporate essential oils into the cleaning process. Not only do they leave a pleasant fragrance in the air, but they also have additional benefits. Adding a few drops of essential oil can create a calming atmosphere, making the chore even more enjoyable. I add lavender, lemongrass, and eucalyptus - just a few drops of each - to the liquid castile soap and water solution I make to impart a fresh, clean scent in the room.

The essential oils also have natural antibacterial properties, which can help sanitize the floor without the need for harsh chemicals. This aligns with my goal of creating a clean and healthy living space for my family.

Make it Easy

If you're not a fan of mopping or find it tedious, here are a few tips to make the task more efficient:

  1. Clear the floor: Remove any obstacles or furniture that may hinder your mopping progress.
  2. Use the right mop: Choose a mop that suits you. Mine has a removable (and washable!) microfiber mat and a built-in dispenser that holds the cleaning solution. A trigger on the handle sends a spray right where I need it, no bucket required!
  3. Work in sections: Divide the floor into sections and focus on one area at a time for a thorough clean.
  4. Dry the floor: After mopping, allow the floor to air dry or use a dry mop to speed up the process.

By following these tips, you can make your mopping experience more efficient and enjoyable.

Wrapping Up

Mopping the floor may be considered a mundane chore by many, but for me, it's a task I genuinely enjoy. The sense of accomplishment, the opportunity to relax, and the added touch of essential oils all contribute to making mopping a surprisingly pleasant experience. So, the next time you find yourself dreading this chore, try to embrace it with a positive mindset. You might just discover a newfound appreciation for the simple act of mopping.
